My scale tool only slides

hi my scale tool dosent scale anymore..... it slides vertices up and down instead. im new to maya and really appreciate any help

Hi, you can try to reset the tool settings. You have to choose scale tool first and then windows>general editors>tool settings>reset tool

yeah it was the first thing i did.... nothing happened

Heads up for future reference this would probably go into technical talk, not 3D showcase. 

After you reset the Maya tool make sure the scale is set to world, not component or object. Maya still scales even if its set to that but error notice will pop up. Worse case scenario, just increment save > close out > reopen. Should fix itself. That technique fixes a lot of Maya bugs.
