Please, critique my retopo work!

    Looks sensible to me. But don't take my word for it. Use mayas quick rig to test it out for yourself. You'll need to know how to use the weight painting tools -- plenty of tutorials can get you up to speed on that -- and then you'll have to know enough about animations to at least get them running. But it's worth the time to learn those things, I think, because if you just have an experienced artist say "move that pole over here, put a loop over here," chances are you will just be following orders and not understanding what you are doing... so that doesn't really do you much good. 

    But if you can watch how the topology is moving and deforming during animation, you'll instantly gain a lot of understanding, and then you can start experimenting too. What happens if I remove some of these loops? What if there is a triangle here or there? You can quickly and easily test it out, and then you know.

    Pluralsight has some good tutorials for basic rigging -- though I am sure there are others as well. Check out the wiki for lots of links to further education.
