hipoly wip. using a hard mesh workflow which means I have to round things out then detail with booleans. Front half of the frame is rounded, now I need to round a second rear half that will be merged together with a union operation during detailing
frame is ready to detail. and a little more iteration on the hp render. figure this way I can tune things as I go.
btw this is what I meant about hard mesh workflow. I'm basically merging these 3 parts together at the beginning of a boolean session so I can detail the entire chunk on top of the layer stack and still keep each major section editable. helps especially when preserving subdivision levels.
Another hipoly update. Figured out the detailing of the cockpit and inner sponsons along with some edits to the frame and progress on other pieces. There's still a lot to do but crits are welcome.
Holy moly, can you show us the wireframe? This is nuts, by your posting time I'd assume a 4+ months project. Such an insane amount of blood in this thread
Spare time has been few and far between but I blocked out the pilot, sculpted the body and modeled the helmet. It's been a journey, this is wayyy out of my comfort zone. I have to finish the gloves and seatbelt then I'll be ready to do final beauty renders.
Nice, works like this makes me thing about the original concept flaws. I'd be curious on how a more equilateral camera field of view would actually match the perspective implied by Brian Sum. Awesome work, your consistency deserves a trophy.
@LuisCherubini - thank you! I tried various FOVs and decided to go with a look that is quite different from the concept. Mostly inspired by the anime Redline.
A few people asked to see wireframes so I put another shot together. It's not too informative thanks to the smooth boolean workflow, however.
