Hi guys, I started modelling an air gun (like in title), this is my first try of low poly modelling in 3Ds Max and will be first time in SP.
P.S. Don't laugh I am modelling an air gun, I actually have this one so it was easier for me as I had this in front of my eyes

STAGE 0: Reference photo.

STAGE 1: Low & high poly modelling (high poly render, low poly wire (smoothing iteration: 1)).
Verts: 4116    Polys: 4052   (without any smoothing)      Do you think it is too many poly count for "low" poly model?

STAGE 2: UV map unwrapping.

STAGE 3: Adding details to high poly model, to be baked in normal map.

That's all for now, yesterday I tested baking in SP and I am happy with the effect. I will post textured pistol when it is done.
All advices welcomed.

I should mention all parts are done separately as I am planning to make a short animation of inserting gas, loading BBs into magazine, and firing.

A small update on a progress. I have done first texturing in SP.

    BRAND NEW model:

    BRAND NEW model with wireframe:

    WORN OUT model:

I will now try to export them to sketchfab, to learn how to do it basically.
I had some issues with sketchfab recognizing that I have 3 UV maps for this model, but with help on another thread on this forum it is done now.
I will also try to do a skin or two for this gun.
    Any advices appreciated.

Would an air gun necessarily have that much edge wear plus low frequency detail scratches, as well (not very well thought out...there btw) unless regularly handled as part of a carnival/sideshow shooting gallery attraction?!

Also why not light this model so the baked detail especially can be seen more clearly?

Just a couple of areas I think, among others needing further work.

This is a five year old thread dug up so they could ask for the model file...
