Is anyone aware of any alternatives to Andrew Hazelden's (now discontinued) PlayblastVR?
I'm working on a project that is primarily Maya Viewport / Maya Hardware based and would really like to be able to use spherical lens distortion without having to add it in post.
Since it's been proven possible to do i'd even be interested in creating a kind of ad-hoc work around specifically for this project, if anyone could direct me to a good place to start.

This stuff is documented on the autodesk site, look for viewport 2.0 post processing (or similar)
