After a decade in AAA, I spent my first few months as an IndieDev in a new country with a scissors in one hand and Substance Designer and a baby bottle in the other.
Using the Allegorithmic tutorial posted
here as a guide I built a home material scanner out of sawn up IKEA tables and a lazy susan. From this humble setup I was able to make 56 unique 4K Fabric Materials for UE4. My setup in Designer was fairly close to the tutorial with some added things like gradient mapping, subsurface color etc.

And my UE4 material setup

I then put together a little promo in Unreal showing the Fabrics in use.

ArtstationI'll soon release the materials for Substance Painter and Designer after I've added some more functionality like grime and wear etc.
I found I learned a lot about shading and looking at real life reference while doing this project. I also cut holes in my in-law's clothing.
Please let me know if I could improve anything or if you have any questions!
Or if you know any good Dad jokes

Thank you,
Ronan
