Artstation Original post:
I've started modelling the JVC KY-210B camera, my aim is to make it game ready and showcase it in marmoset.
Gifs of the blockout:
I had some trouble with how thick the camera body was but I think I'm pretty close at the moment.
Its rendered with modos rounded edge shader.
The dark green areas are just placeholder for where text and logos will go.
Any suggestions or feedback is welcome

A small annoyance I found is that the handle is slightly offset to one side on the camera, one side sticks out quite a bit further than the other.
Only thing thats left now is the handle on the lens (dark grey)
Heres a closeup of the lens, I have different lenses on the reference images and I decided to take the best parts of both.
It was a bit challenging to make the front part of the lens handle as I coulnt find any image that showed that area in detail but I think I got it pretty close.
Even though it looks a bit odd to have two holes on the bottom of the lens so close to each other thats what the reference shows
The strap is a tiling texture and the leather cushion is baked to a lowpoly mesh to make them easier to work with.
Feedback is always welcome
Yeah, the plan is to texture it according to the reference image.
I'll have to figure out how to do the lens glass properly, I hope its not too difficult
Now its just the Substance Painter work thats left
Thanks!
WIP textures, I'm working with Painter but the stickers and text are done in photoshop. Text is really annoying to work with in Painter, its one of its weakest areas I feel.
I'll have to work on the presentation as well, if you have an idea for what I could do to improve it I'd love to hear it
@Avenger84 Thanks!
I'll iterate some more and try to fix the plastic as mentioned and the clean-ish metal which I find hard to make look right
I've tried to light the mesh to highlight the different areas, I watched Simon Fuchs excellent "Handgun Tutorial" and tried to replicate parts of what he did.
Any feedback on the model or lighting would be very appreciated, I've been looking at for so long that its hard to get a balanced perspective. Does the lighting look overdone? Should the background be darker/lighter?
Heres a version with all blue rim lights, which looks better, thanks for the feedback and helpful link kohg and Eric
Now I just need to fix the lighting for a few more renders and then this project will finally be complete
Any feedback on the final lighting or anything else for that matter is very welcome!
On my reference the plastics are scuffed but still pretty clean looking, it couldve been cleaned of course.
Cleaning can't restore the surface layers being worn but Im no expert in the physics behind
I think you can get a lot of visual quality with a bit of push there
I might've overdone it a bit with the wear on the handle but it looked a bit weird to me if it was only on the edge. I tried to wear away the coating or what you'd call it where the palm and fingers would touch the handle.
