FBX import - Mesh or Poly

Hi all,

3DS Max question

So I've noticed that when importing objects, using FBX, it may come in as an editable poly or an editable mesh. These are objects that I created and exported with FBX - default settings. The were ALL editable poly when exported. I just can't figure out why some are converted to editable mesh  on import - since I never use editable mesh it creates an additional step converting. I've looked through the FBX settings but can't see any setting that I could use to always import as EP  - I noticed that the obj import dialog does have a check box for editable poly.

Not a huge deal but would like to eliminate the EM if possible. ;)

Thanks!
CO

    Unsure but...

I suspect it'll convert any geometry it considers shit to editable mesh.

Editable poly has rules,  if it doesn't fit those you'll get a mesh

Interesting theory... the objects in question are rather simple pieces.

Update - you may be right on. After looking closer at the output of a particular plugin I found it creates pretty messed up mesh. Dumped that plug and created the parts myself. No more problems with EM with that piece.

    Thanks
