Hi i modeled a weapon and my lowpoly looked good in 3ds max and when i exported as a OBJ and unwrapped it in headus UV and imported back to max it looks awfull. i made sure smoothing groups was imported also. but even fixing SG does not seem to help. The last 3 pics are after re import

When importing, rest the normals with an edit normals modifier. If that doesn´t work, edit smooting groups by UVs with Xnormal and reset the normals.
After you import from Headus UV to 3Ds Max, try setting up Smoothing groups from UV shells using Textools. I think it'll fix this issue as this looks like a smoothing problem to me. I have used this method so please feel free to give it a try.
