we're currently hiring for two (2) game art professor positions at NYU Game Center
https://gamecenter.nyu.edu/if you're a 3D artist, 2D artist, UI artist, tech artist, art director, concept artist, etc. with working experience, then we want you to come teach and train game design students at New York University's Game Center
- live and work in New York City, which is pretty fun
- full-time salary, health and benefits, comparable to most AAA standards (or better), more info:
https://www.nyu.edu/faculty/benefits/full-time/benefits-guide.html- moving expenses and relocation package, housing assistance is available
- teach 2-3 classes per semester, which is about 9 months a year total (the other 3 months of the year is summer vacation or winter break, and that's when you do whatever you want)
- lots of control over the classes, curriculum, and material you teach... if hired, you will basically decide what our game art curriculum should be
- we expect and encourage you to continue outside work / personal projects / etc (NYU does not own the rights to any of your work, nor any student work)
- zero crunch, ever
- this is basically a dream job, in my opinion
- AAA or indie is a plus
- shipped titles are a plus
- teaching experience is a big plus
- no PhD or MA/MFA needed, but it's a plus
- no academic publications needed, but it's a plus
- we welcome international applicants (non-US citizen / no green card)

- not that college rankings mean that much, but we're ranked
#2 in the world for game design
https://www.princetonreview.com/press/game-design-press-release- we regularly field nominees in IGF awards, and sometimes we even win
- I know at polycount we're very suspicious of universities, and that's fair, but honestly at NYU Game Center we care a lot about teaching, and we want to give students the education that we never got
Replies
- remote work isn't really possible, sorry... you will have to live near NYC / commute regularly to Downtown Brooklyn... but again, relocation assistance / moving fees / housing assistance is available depending on your situation
- if you're in the NYC area and can't commit to a full-time position, we're always open to part-time game art teachers, just e-mail me and I can connect you for that
- as with any game art hire, there's heavy emphasis on your portfolio, but we also like to consider everything (letters of recommendation, resume, personal statement, etc) to get a full sense of where everyone's coming from... but we're not looking for specific genre or specific shipped titles, any good work is good work
- if you have any sort of bachelor's degree, you are academically qualified for this position; again, no masters or phd required (although it's cool if you have one)
- you can start the job application and submit most of it without any recommendation letters, I think the system will let your recommenders send in the letters later
- start date would be August / September 2019... if you have a big full-time project to finish, we can be flexible on start date depending on your situation... if it's a part-time contract project, you can usually just continue the contract while teaching at NYU
btw, the application period closes in 3 weeks (December 1st) so please get in on this if you're interested!
