I'm a professional software developer who works in the medical industry. Medical equipment and games probably have more differences than similarities, but I've had a certain game-like project on my mind for a while now. The one thing that's held me back is the art/visual assets. Now that I have a job though, I realize I can pay someone money to make it their problem.
There's a few reasons I'm looking for a novice:
- Everything else is probably beyond my pay grade. I'm pretty fresh out of college so I'm not swimming in that much money yet. Please don't send me a portfolio of your stuff that puts AAA to shame and then demand $4500 an hour!
- This is going to be a learning experience for me. I'm going into
this not knowing exactly what I'm doing, so I'm planning for a lot of error.
The casualness of it all means that I'm definitely not expecting AAA
tier work. I'm a novice, so having a novice 3d artist seems proper.
- One of my biggest requirements for my project is for it to be moddable. I
want third parties to be able to add their own custom 3d assets to
share and such. So, I want to go for a very basic visual style. If my
game looks like a AAA title, it's going to set the bar too high for
other novice artists.
I'm not picky about what tools are used. I want to conform to some public standard so that any tool set can be used, as long as it complies to that standard. There must be some common 3d file format... Some quick reading makes the .dae format look promising, but I'm not too sure. I will consult you on those sort of details.
I've been "shopping around" for various tools/engines, and right now the Godot Engine looks like my best bet. If that ends up not working out, the Ogre3D rendering engine is probably my second choice.
As of right this very moment, I'm only looking for a simple animated model, and the ability to consult the artist about many of the numerous questions I will probably have. In the future, I will be in the market for some actual game assets.
As I mentioned in
#3, I'm looking for a very basic style. I like the simplicity/cartoony-ness of the hatsune miku model in this video:
https://youtu.be/QGIhOolsTd0 I'm not married to a particular style though. That's just an example of the sort of thing I'm looking for. But I really don't know much, for all I know that could be a very hard style to pull off. Let me know how delusional I am!
I don't really know where to start when talking about money. I'm so not confident that I'll even be able to produce anything that I wouldn't feel right offering a cut of the profits that may or may not happen. As mentioned, my shopping list is mainly a very basic animated model and some consulting. Reach out to me via email/forum message and give me some numbers then.
I prefer to talk via discord or some other instant messaging service, but I don't really want to put my discord on here. Send me an email/forum message and we'll chat more from there!
