I recently did a lecture to a class of Uni students and got some good feedback so I thought I would expand and publish it on my blog.
Part 1 starts with a little about me (which you are welcome to skip).
In part 2 I talk about the differences in the games industry when I joined compared to how it is today.
Finally in parts 3 & 4 I impart every bit of advice I can think of. Much of it is character art focused, but a lot is relevant to all art disciplines and some non art too.
Some of it will be obvious to some or contentious. You can take it or leave it as you please. If one artist finds this helpful then great. #gamedev #characterdesign
