New to character design and looking for some pointers.

Looking to make a heroic "buzz lightyear" type character. Got my base mesh and trying to make the form look friendly but heroic. I'm not sure what exactly i'm looking for and maybe you folks can find something I missed. I'm mainly focusing on the head right now but any critique is 'preciated!

to brian, Think like huge; barrel-chested hero like Superman, Kronk, Buzz lightyear, etc.

but in the face. 

to peter, any help you can offer would be amazing. my anatomy sucks right now. sometimes it clicks and sometimes it doesn't.

Sternoecledoid mastoid muscle being defined that way makes no sense since it doesn't run parallel like that in real life.
