I tried the baker after applying some materials to the hp.
'detail texture loading failed' is the reply. how do the load the texture?
in Blender you must apply a material with the uv maps etc, to the hp and then you can bake this to the lp, so you will have a uv map with a rust texture etc tiled on it.

is that the same thing?
You can apply the rust texture after you bake. You don't need to apply it when you bake the textures.
well, im not using any, I cant actually work out how Substance Designer attaches the texture to be baked if I found a box or a menu then I could at least experiemnt but i cant find that.

What texture formats are you using? (eg: jpg?)
What you describe should work.
