Green lines on my models - 3DS Max

Hi,
I'm new to modelling. I've just UV unwrapped a model I made, using the Unwrap UV modifier.
I used Projection, Peel and Flatten.
Everything looked okay, so I then saved the UV map.
I imported the map into GIMP, and also imported the desired texture.
I exported the file and using the Material editor, I assigned the texture to the model.
It mostly looks okay, but there are green lines on my model.

What are these green lines, and how do I get rid of them?
I'm using 3DS Max 2018.

Thanks in advance,
Raze

Can you post a screenshot? The Unwrap modifier highlights texture seams with green, but I don't know if that's what you are talking about.

Sounds like the uv borders from the uv template you saved and textured on. Are the lines in the texture(2d image)?

I've attached a screenshot showing the green lines. They only appear on the model in the 3D view, not in the texture.

I've tried creating my own seams, but the green lines are still present. I'm having a hard time placing my uvs in the editor. It doesn't make sense to me where some should go. In screenshot 1 below, this, to me, looks correct:

Everything looks lined up. But then you have screenshot 2:

How am I supposed to do this? How can I cater for both of the large faces with the smaller ones? Where do I move the highlighted uv now? I don't understand where these uvs are supposed to go

From your screenshot it very much looks as if you saved the texture out of GIMP with your UV layer still on top of everything. Could you post a screenshot of the actual texture file that you're applying to the stairs. I say this because there is pixelation on those green lines that your showing on your first screenshot, they would be solid (perfect) lines that 3DS MAX renders if they were just your UV seam markers.

So first I would go through and check and that you've indeed not placed the UVs on top of the texture accidentally. If that isn't the case I would check the material editor by pressing 'M', and checking that you haven't somehow applied a UV render as a material accidentally.

In reference to your UV layout screenshots, what exactly are you trying to achieve and line up? Are you just trying to make it so that the texture flows perfectly across the stair surface without an visual breaks?
Are you trying to maximize UV space so the texture has better fidelity on your object?

UV islands don't necessarily have a place within the layout that they "should" go, it's not so much a puzzle that fits together but more of playing Tetris with your islands to maximize space.
