HELP - Having problems modelling gun grip/handle.

A few days ago I started making a triple barreled revolver in Maya, styled like the real life gun, the Chiappo Rhino 60DS. 
I was making some good progress but have completely hit the wall when attempting to model the guns grip. 

The main issue I am having is that I cannot seem to smoothly add the upper curl of the grip into the rest of it without having distorted faces.

Was wondering if anyone had any tips for how to do complex shapes like this in Maya?
Any other crit and feedback is also welcome.
