[speedtree] How to reduce the polycount of this bush for a PC game...

im new to speedtree.

I made a bramble bush using this tutorial...



currently the total polys is 92k, so straight away I tweaked the model to remove a lot of the branches/stalks to lower the poly cunt.

for example I made the leaves much more simple...



I looked at this page...
 

but before I play about with the Simplify generators, I have a question about thorns...

The scene I am making in Unity, I would like the bushes to rather high detail as the player/camera would be crawling about bramble bushes.


here is a close up of the thorns, obviously if each thorn is a mesh you can expect a huge poly cunt, is there a way to replace the thorns with 2d planes just as it is with the leaves?
