Using proxies

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knew of a good guide to utilizing proxies while animating. I'd love to see a tutorial on the best way to transfer keys and if there's anything special you have to do to make it work well.

Did some googling, and it's possible I don't know the best words to use to search for this kind of thing. Thanks!
