3DS Max XRef Tracking

Hi,

I have been tasked with establishing a modular environment workflow for buildings using 3DS Max's XRef system, the main purpose is to work in a non destructive way using one master scene per building constructed from Xref-ing multiple sub components (door frames, support beam etc.).

One issue I keep running into is how do I track which master scenes need re exporting if I make a change to a sub component scene? The buildings are built to work in a modern game engine and multiple artists will be creating many master scenes so having an automated way of getting a change list when a sub component is changed would be preferable.

Has anyone else encountered similar issues/solutions?

Thanks in advance.

Chilly

Xref Scene and Xref Objects are two seperate systems. Which one are you using?

One issue I keep running into is how do I track which master scenes need re exporting...

What have you tried? It's not hard to do with script, but I don't want to make a detailed write up of a process if you've already tried it.

...if I make a change to a sub component scene?

What kind of changes are you making? As far as I know you can't do modeling updates on an xref object, and have the master scene update.
