SENIOR LIGHTING ARTIST

Schell Games is currently seeking a talented Lighting Artist to join our current team working on a large-scale interactive set of game scenes. Team experience is essential as is the ability to be self-directed and be able to prioritize your workload efficiently and collaborate closely with the development team.

Our ideal candidate will be able to create visually compelling lighting and ambiances for both interior and exterior settings in an upcoming large-format attraction.  Working closing with the Art Director, environment leads, and concept artists, the candidate will be responsible for the production and implementation of lighting and ambiances that uphold the aesthetic vision of the game and maintain the highest level of consistency and quality possible.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:  The position includes assisting in the creation of all in-game lighting and post-process effects for the characters, environments, and cut scenes.  Candidate will also help define processes for, and assist content generalists in, the first pass lighting procedures for the experience.  They will collaborate with tools and tech team to enhance lighting pipeline.  Candidate will respond to feedback from client Creative Director and work to achieve the most cinematic and realistic lighting conditions possible.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 7+ years of experience video game development and at least 1 published AAA game 
  • At least 3+ years of experience as a VFX artist in video game development and at least 1 published AAA game
  • Past lighting experience with realtime rendering engines   
  • Expert Unreal game engine experience/knowledge (Unity lighting experience is a plus)
  • Excellent understanding of color, space, mood, materials, and the properties of light   
  • Expert-level understanding of lighting systems and post-processing effects  
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate the creative and technical lighting processes while ensuring that high production values are never compromised.   
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies
  • Knowledge of realtime lighting techniques/technologies, particularly work in PBR environments
  • A resourceful problem solver for balancing lighting quality and gameplay requirements
  • Strong communication/collaboration skills  
  • Passion for and knowledge of film and other relevant artistic media

Portfolio of work is required with application for review demonstrating work examples.

We prefer the candidate be able to work on-site with our development team, but will entertain remote working situations with the ideal candidate.
