PureRef is amazing for piecing together references. Not only can you drag and drop images directly into it from the browser, but you can then save out the collage as an image file.
I set up my tablet monitor and my iPad so they're both right next to each other, and save the image to a folder on my NAS so I can load it on the iPad, and have my references right next to my tablet.

That SculptGL app is cool, very fast.

There's a couple other online tools in here, one is a Photoshop clone, the other is a vector art editor:

PureRef and TreeIT ( http://www.evolved-software.com/treeit/treeit ) are the only free tools that i use aside from game engines obviously

Another plug for PureRef. Seriously has to be one of the most important programs I use.
