Hey all,
So I've recently been hired and have converted from Maya to 3DS Max for the studio. I am also using it at home now since I've quickly fallen in love with the program. However, I have some small questions regarding 3ds that I can't seem to find the answer to.
1. Quad chamfer that comes with 3DS Max 2016-2018 is the same as the one from Marius right? Or am I missing something?
2. I'm familiar with a lot of users using the TexTools and I know renderhjs has been doing a lot for Blender texturing as of late. I'm just wondering if there is a preference between the TexTools and PolyUnwrapper. What are the pros and cons of the two?
3. Is there a way to increase or decrease the selection tolerance of vertex/edge selection or likewise the tolerance of vertex welding?
4. Can I store the view rotation to the last selected object so then when an object is not selected the view rotation will not fly away?

For vertex welding, I've only ever used the dial and just push the number up or down. There might be some plugins that do a better job but I've never had problems with the vanilla software.
Just checked it out, I am familiar with soft selection. However, I am thinking more of the distance from a vert that I would have to click in order to select said vert. Rather than the way soft select is selecting an area around an already selected vert/sub-object. O kind of like an area of acceptance? If that clarifies anything.
Edit: I'm thinking of the way Maya has "Highlight Nearest Component" https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/Maya/files/GUID-60FD5F79-AC1D-46DE-B66D-2FBE73E15A30-htm.html
2. I think that TexTools for max haven't been updated for like a decade, many of the tools are already there in the updated unwrap, some of them are not; PolyUnwrapper is actively maintained (I used to use TexTools years ago and never used PolyUnwrapper, i have some custom tools, though)
3. I'm afraid not, there's a similar setting for snaps but that's about that. But you can turn on selection preview to at least see what will get selected if you click.
4. You can use Orbit point of interest, when clicking over any geometry it will place the rotation point on its surface.

4. If you have something selected, hit Z to center the view. Then after deselecting the view will still be centered there. Depends on your setting in the Orbit button.
