Hi! I'm having some issues with my normal maps whilst trying to bake them in Substance but it's not coming out smooth like the high poly. So far I've tried messing about with the settings in the bake mesh menu (see screenshots below), I've tried using both OBJ and FBX, tried triangulating the low poly and using Smooth Groups in the export, also tried creating a normal map in xNormal but nothing seems to change the bake at all. It's probably a very stupid thing that I'm just not seeing since I lack the basics but could someone help out a noob in need please? Thank youuuu
Its looking pretty smooth to me, if you are talking about the jagged edges of the silhouette the only way to make it smoother is increasing the resolution/polycount of the mesh.
Normally I'd be fine with it if I would be using Maya for the final render, but for this project I want to try Unity so the mesh has to be super smooth. Is the only way adding geometry to the low poly? I'm just worried about the polycount even though it's not meant for a game. Here's some pics of the wireframe before triangulation:
Yes, you will have to increase the geo, normal map can't fake geometry its only purpose is to make edges softer and add detail. Heads and characters in game tend to have more geometry than other props, so it's fine to go a little higher on polycount.
