Hey everyone!
I'm pretty new to modelling in general, and right now I am using Maya and Mudbox for my builds. I've heard a lot of good things about zbrush (of course) but right now it is very much out of my price range. I was wondering if zbrush core might be a good option, or if I might as well stick to Mudbox until my economy is a bit more stable. What do you guys think? Also, feel free to post pics of what you have built in the different programs, if you want to. Just want as much information as possible! Thanks

It depends on what you need to do with it.  There's not much to lose when buying Zbrush Core since you can essentially recoup the cost in the upgrade to ZBrush if you so choose.  There is no decimation master or  remesher but there is Dynamesh which was basically all I wanted from core.  There is no "2.5D" aspect to core it is all 3d.  No UVW mapping tools.

For me core filled the void for high poly sculpting.  I do find myself wanting many of the features the full version has which I mentioned earlier.  If I had the money to spare I'd update to the full version in a heartbeat but since 3d modelling is a hobby for me core gets the job done.  Is it worth it though?  Nah not really.  The full version of Zbrush is just so feature rich that core would likely teach you ways of doing things that are hacky at best or obsolete in the full version.

I would STRONGLY suggest watching some videos from Michael Pavlovich on YouTube.  He has a great series on Zbrush Core that got me up and running.  He goes every feature in Core so you can get an idea of what to expect.
