Hey guys,

Lately I’ve been traveling around a lot and my PC is becoming really inconvenient to handle along. I’m a 3D animator só I’m wondering is there any laptop suitable for an animation process in Maya? Sure there are tons of laptops selling but I need something with a pretty large monitor (because I often use splitted screen in Maya, one is perspective view, one is th camera view and the last one is the graph editor. Small monitor just makes it impossible to see the keys in the graph and tiny details of movements) and a strong hardware system. Any suggestion?

Thanks a bunch guys!

This depends heavily on your budget.

But if you need a large screen, there are many 17" laptops out there. There are the Alienware series, the Razer blades (which I have been using one for 2 years now), the MSI's, the Asus and more.

If your budget is sub-1500$, try looking into MSI  or some Asus, I've heard they make solid laptops with good hardware.

If you're looking for a stylish laptop or crazy specs, try looking into the Alienware or Razer blades.

@Blouko well let's pretend the budget is not a big problem to me haha. I just need something convenient and do the job, no fancy design required. Just something huge and strong.

17 inches is maximum? Any monitor comes in larger size?

Thought I've just found the Lamborghini in the laptops world :open_mouth:

Guess this is all I need, maybe with a portable monitor they can be a perfect couple! But now the budget is a big problem to me lol

you know in studios, we often work with at least 2 even 3 27 inches monitors. Now it just became my habit and it makes anything smaller than a 17 inches screen looks likes piece of A4 sheet :(

You're definitely right on that. I've also gotten use to bigger monitors. I guess the only fix would be bringing a monitor along when moving, but that's definitely not a portable piece of hardware.

Working on a laptop is definitely a different experience. I normally close the screen of my laptop and work on a monitor, and when I'm on the go I bring a hdmi cable with me to plug it into a monitor wherever I'm going.

That is definitely the supercar of the laptops, although at this point, when it's this big, I don't even know if you can still call it "portable" as it's huge. But yeah, some of my friends work on a 17" Alienware and they really don't mind it. I've done a gamejam with a friend on a screen of that size and he told me he likes working on his laptop screen better than on the 24" screens that were provided. It does take some getting use to, but I think it's doable.

@Blouko you got some really crazy friends here :)) thought that everybody would think that the larger the better :))

And yeah I'm thinking about it, it's such a heavy laptop anyway and I can't bring it all day long. But think again it's not really necessary for me to move it around all day long. I don't need to bring it to a cafe, just something At least combine in one pack. With that idea I'm looking for all-in-one PCs. Heard HP just releases some cool ones lately.

You might take a look at Xotic PC

I configured and purchased my work laptop through them and I love it.  I felt like I was able to customize it exactly with the hardware I wanted without any garbage bloatware for the most reasonable price I could find on the internet for what I was getting.

    *Edit:
    Check out this customization page.
