starting another personal project based on concept art by Noodle Li. I plan to take this to a more detailed style than my more recent work.

Thanks everyone for the kind words! @BoonS funny you should say that, I really struggled the most with the wood, as I don't do material details very often!

Some more details and adjustments done, I plan to do leaves with cards so it's pretty temp now!

Think it looks great, very clean forms. Nice one! Only thing I'd say is if you wanted to style it just like the concept, the waist almost looks like around half the width of your body, very thin. Also like how you've done the leaves, awesome!

This looks great, but please note the asymmetrical nature of some of the wooden armour parts in the concept, particularly at the knees and thighs.

Really cool. The drawing has a lot of cool curves in it, like up in the horns and also the knives. I think with your translation you could bring some more exaggerated curves to the body. I am thinking specifically of the arc from the knee to the ankle. Getting more of a curve in that area might make compliment the curves and S-shapes found in the costume, knives, horns etc...

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I decided to give this some more time and break the symmetry as was suggested.

Also went a little closer to the concepts proportions.

I see you fix lower leg thickness but end up with boxy legs also arms might a bit to wavy spaghetti like

@carvuliero Thanks for the feedback, I pushed the legs a little more and straightened the arms.

I did some tries with hair cards and got to a point that I felt secure I can polish later and it would work on the final model. I just wanted to make sure before going forward with the low poly and such.

Is this wooden structure on her leg all rigid ,can you push ankles inwards ?

I would maybe try to push the calf muscle a little bit, her lower leg is looking very straight.

@carvuliero @lotet Thanks for the feedback guys, I added some more curvature there, it's getting covered a lot by the leaves now though.

Doing some work on the daggers now and will start some rough posing next.

The little leaves on forearms and calves still need tweaking to look more natural.

Holy moly! I think I saved this concept in my library too, but your execution on this concept is super well done! I'm really diggin' the subtle color variations in green & browns throughout the whole piece. You're also handling the transition between the bark and skin really nicely - I like that the borders are nice and clean so it retains a strong silhouette on the individual bark pieces. Looking forward to the next update!

She looks fantastic, @AgelosAp! I'm digging the floating pose setup and stand that you've added. I think she has a slight seam issue on her right armpit area in the most recent shots, but I don't think it'd be too much of an issue if it's just the lighting or something like that. The hair and the nose / lips came out especially amazing. Can't wait to see the final presentation, man; I'm sure it's gonna look crazy good!

Not sure I love the black eyes. Given the elemental woodsy mystic creature vibe, maybe they could glow? 

I think a simple scene with grass and a hint of woods in the background would put this over the edge....walking through the mist for the pose.

I don't have much feedback beyond I think the choices you made were really smart. I dig the floating pose and the organic base.

If you have time, I might try to add some finer tertiary details to the leather straps on the arms, legs, and chest just to break it up from the wood which is very similar in color. I also know the original concept calls for black eyes, but I might suggest adding a little bit of color in them to break them up -- more deer like than just emotionless voids.

@pixelpatron Thanks for the suggestion! I liked that image and it is within the style of the character. I wasn't very sure about how it would translate to 3d and since I also didn't want to spend a lot more time I ended up settling for the little base I did. The eyes sure needed something done!

@ja000ha Thanks for the feedback! I edited the colors for the leather parts, it was too close in values indeed. For the eyes I tried the deer and they were certainly better, but finally settled with these kind of in-between.

She turned out great! The newly added irises definitely help give her some of the emotion she was lacking before.

I've begun to ask this question more often: was there anything you feel you learned specifically from working on this piece?

@ja000ha Thank you, glad you like it!

@RocketBryan Good question, I certainly should have optimized the hair and leaves before placing them, cause right now I feel like it might be a red flag to clients, for the amount of polys there are for these. I started placing hair just to test out things but it came out alright and didn't change them in the end as I was feeling spent.

Funny thing about this is that on my previous hair card project(the rogue) I had kept everything in a reference mode in 3ds max, so I could actually change geo after placing the cards, but felt adventurous on this one :P

edit: And since I'm mentiong it now it means it seriously bothers me, so I'll edit it and update the model!

I also learned that it's easy to make a small idle after posing your character with transpose. I just placed a CAT rig on the same pose I had, and skinned her. For small movements it works just fine, and there is no need to weight skin 100% correctly this way.

Thanks @seimax, don't have any too specific stuff about anatomy. Lately I've been using basemeshes to not eat up time dragging limbs from spheres, and then pushing and moving features that are kind of hinted already. Other than that, use a lot of reference and just keep repeating exercises etc.
