Here is a low poly model I made in 3ds max of some liquid splatter. I had to make it manually from a cylinder with extrude + relax.

Is there a faster way to create this in an automated way? For example, I make a sphere, then add a modifier called splat and drip? Is there anything like this?
This image shows what I'm looking for:

Does anything like the above image exist in 3ds max?

Or use particles?
The results from particle flow have a ridiculously high poly count and it's too complicated. I'm looking for a quick, automated solution.
Personally I'd have built that from a plane.
First I'd have marked out where I wanted the drops to go by shift-extruding, chopped a few edges in, put a shell modifier on it and then a turbosmooth. I can't imagine it'd take more than a few minutes
That shell modifier is very helpful, it's exactly what I needed.
