Hello everyone, I've started modeling for a year now, but I still stuck in an intermediate level, I can model simple things good, but when it comes to complex models, I just can't, so I need to know what is the best ways to model complex things, I've just thought about looking at some tutorials for  people modeling complex props and follow their instructions, but is that considered a good way or no? Please provide any tips or advice to enhance my modeling workflow and be able to model more complex models.

Thank you

What is your goal? Each type of modelling can get pretty complex, whether it is characters, vehicles, weapons, etc. If something like weapons are your jam, find some cool concepts to model, or model from the real thing. Find some concept art or pictures of a real life object and model away.

Tutorials on modeling more complex objects will help you see how other people tackle various problems so that's certainly one thing.  Another will be to simply try, and fail, and try again.  Use what you learn in the tutorials and try to apply the concepts you learn to your own project.  If you're still stuck, there's a great thread on polycount for exactly this:

See if anyone there has asked about modeling something similar.  Post your attempts, explain what you're having trouble with, and more than likely somebody will be able to help you out :)

I think a good way to learn is by first attempting totally on your own. Like a blind run of Dark Souls, if you will. Just develop some quick plan, go in, do your best, get your ass kicked.

That gives you a bit more to go off of for research purposes. Now you'll understand what some of the pitfalls are, and what tools/methods you expect you'll need to accomplish your goal . So you spend some time researching, seeing what others have done, and now you are ready to try again.

Then you give your best effort, rinse and repeat. If you've fought tooth and nail but just can't come up with a solution, then you post detailed reports on forums like this and see if others can help, and keep in mind that the more detailed your reports, not only will the help you get be better but you are helping other people facing the same problems as you.
