I haven't touched 3ds Max in forever and i'm trying to re-learn it. Whenever I left click the scene and don't select an object these really annoying white lines appear. What are they? How do I remove them? Help please?
My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M and I am using Max 2018. The issue is not the brackets, as I can still turn those on and off. These while lines come off of the objects and the view cube whenever i lasso select and nothing is selected.
The mobile graphics cards are sometimes not capable of working with DCC software even if they can play many 3D games. But there is a couple of things to try:
In Preferences | Viewports can you turn off selection highlights and previews? The sort of outline shape makes me think that could not be compatible with your video card.
If that doesn't work try Preferences | Viewports | Choose Driver, and test Nitrous Software and the Legacy ones. Hopefully one of those works for you.

Typically you tap J on the keyboard to turn off selection brackets, but this looks like a bug to me.
