Anyways, here is the piece I'm picking up again this weekend. Think I'm going to be tweaking the construction of the smaller bits. Looking for any suggestions!

Interesting blue-green female you have there . If I have to be really picky about anatomy she is missing trapezius muscle I can suggest few of Loomis books that can get you started on drawing people [they are all free on the internet ]:

For drawing heads, I imagine there's a vast amount of resources to learn how to create faces that are proportioned and accented for mainstream audiences, but if you ever need a palette cleanser I'd suggest checking the human pantone collection if you haven't already. It can be a good anatomy anchor when it comes to studying faces, and understanding the ways that normal people look differently from cover models can often be used as a good foundation to stylizing/exaggerating facial features. And as carvuliero mention, Loomis is excellent too.

here is a  WIP of the next weapon I'm working on:

Even though I like the bottom one, I think the top one would be a  interesting opportunity for color/value variation

probably will be wrapping this up soon, gonna add a vial/finish the string/magic.   Something about the colors is bothering me- i have a feeling fiddling with the background will help, but overall a good learning experience so far!

anyone have any recommendations on how to color calibrate their photoshop/cintiq/etc?  For some reason my colors come out a lot brighter in photoshop, then when i save and post anywhere else i have to re-adjust and bump the saturation and contrast like crazy

nice forms , and concepts. I would recommend improving your color mixing  as you are ending up with muddy colors some of the time, and your use of browns is also kinda working against your workflow.

So it turns out I was using a terrible color profile while saving my stuff out. here is some progress on my little characters

Absolutely adore your design sense. That mask adds so much mysteriousness to the characters and I'd really love to see them unmasked yet they are so satisfyingly complete with the mask on, as if it's part of the face (if that makes sense?).

I'd love to see your characters actually interacting with environments, I think your environments will be great too.

took your guys advice and am starting to study more atypical face shapes. I also am starting to take a second look at loomis and the reilly method.  Still have a long way to go but it feels good to improve!

Hey, really nice job on the studies Reilly method is really working. Only thing I'd suggest would be to work on pushing your values and shapes for the rendered part. You've got a really good sense of anatomy but i think pushing the value would it give a more volume in space.

probably jumping a little early (oh well!) into color versions of my face practice.  I went back more to stylized as well, i enjoy painting more cartoony, but i do think i have to keep up with more realistic studies!

All the green effect and handle look great but blade-flint is not there yet

Let me try to explain how this blades are made maybe this will help you so you have one rock bashing the other rock chipping small pieces in hope to achieve a certain shape so horns in your case a probably not possible[also there are various in size planes all over the blade -> check ref below] + looking to symmetrical

I didn't use the amber anywhere- that was messy leftover from another piece. This is my ref material:

That video is very interesting, ill certainly be looking at it in the future when i make more weapons like this!

I see you have use obsidian as a reference in this case might be possible to create what you have if someone is good at shaping molten rock
