Hey guys! Like a few others, I'm jumping in on the Retrogasm competition, and will be working on Jennifer Simpson from the Clock Tower: The First Fear game. I'm not as confident with realistic characters, so any advice or suggestions along the way would be very appreciated. I won't be following the concepts as much as I'll be working off of their designs. For the face and style, I'm going for a semi-realistic likeness to a younger Jennifer Connelly (Labyrinth and Phenomena era).
I've recently started in on the base mesh and am attempting to get the likeness closer to the actress. I'm not 100% on the proportions just yet, so if something feels off I'd be glad to fix it moving forward.
I tried to get a better grasp on things by adding in a hair chunk and brushing in some eyebrows in Photoshop. I'll probably go with hair cards once I get things retopoed and in Maya.
New update! I'm not feeling the likeness to Connelly yet (Phenomena and Labyrinth era) and I would be glad to hear thoughts or pointers to get things it a little closer (or just working on a realistic-ish character in general). In the meantime I've put together a pinafore dress in Marvelous Designer and brought it back into ZBrush to get some clothing on the character.
I'm a little behind right now but I'm gonna keep pushing forward. Next I'll be doing several passes to clean up the high poly sculpt before worrying about poly-painting some skin and details. Then it'll be onto the retopo.
Still working on this! I haven't hit a DEAD END yet but progress is slow. If I can get the high poly finished by the time the contest ends I'll be sure to finish her up at my own pace. Finally getting to a happier spot with the likeness, and the clothing is next up on the agenda. Also gotta add in some fingernails and get those eyebrows on point.
New update with the high poly just about done. A lot of the cleanup will be saved for the texturing stage, but the closes and likeness are about as close as I can get them.
Retopo is next on the agenda, and I'll probably try to get the eyes and lashes setup for marmoset while I'm at it.
