Some more progress updates! Been working on small bits and pieces & also started reworking the folds on the upper part of his leather overcoat (neglected the bottom still though haha) Really enjoying taking the time and properly modelling all the bits and pieces in Max!
Hell yeah, dude. Love his trinkets, and chainmail, that was very nicely done. What kind of material is his tunic? I'd say my feedback would be to sharpen up some folds, but if it's a thicker material then it may read just fine as that
Just a little update. I've finally got in a base for all the little bits and pieces and replicated the patterns and designs in photoshop to make into displacement maps as bases to sculpt over! I plan to go into everything and make it look really worn and lived in like the film costume
@HazelTheHobbit I'm loving the development of this character. I was wondering what is the method your use to get the clothing and props started? Do you detail it in Zbrush?
@ruebenDodds Thankyou! I use marvelous designer to get a base mesh for my clothes and the props are either made in 3DS Max or just in Zbrush by dynameshing etc But then yeah I end up detailing it in Zbrush at the end!
Calling the highpoly done for now! Might revisit it depending on how it holds up in bakes and with textures etc. Of course crit is still very welcome! Eager to get a move on with retopo and stuff since I want to spend a lot of time on textures and hair and I'm aware that although the deadline is some way away it'll come quickly when I'm only spending evenings and weekends on this haha
Retopped and baked most of Boromir! Still haven't done the props yet though. Threw on some basic textures just to get a feel for him. Colours need some work to match them better to the film costume!
Started to get things moving in a direction I'm happy with, been figuring out stuff like hair and stubble and stuff. Everything is still mega WIP but I'm starting to see how I can pull this together now
Been working on his face trying to get that likeness.. feel like its getting there in the sculpt but not once its baked and in marmoset? Crit would be much appreciated!!
A little more work, been able to get a lot done this weekend I'm pretty pleased! Got some quixel megascan stuff for the ground, feel like that makes a big difference to the presentation! Still messing around with the floor and final lighting and also plan to make a cloak (probably gonna go for his brown fur one that he has in the beginning but if that's too challenging I'll go for the green fellowship lothlorien one!
And he's done! Overall I'm pretty pleased with how he turned out, a few bits in hindsight I would have done differently but I'll be taking all that onto my next project!
I've only just found this thread, and glad I did! I've been on a huge Lord of the Rings binge lately, this Boromir looks awesome, and the PS2 games were great. I think you did an amazing job on all of his trinkets and clothing, the look of the materials is spot on.

I do think you should rework the face though, it is really clearly lacking aging details.
Material quality looking good, I think. Some epidermal tears into the tunic cloak might gussy it up a bit more.
Thankyou! I'm going to do an extra pass on the clothes now so I'll make sure to add that in!
I've also started re-doing the front portion of the hair (not done in this screenshot) as well to better frame his face and fit the film style.
