Character was create in Maya, Zbrush and rendered with Arnold. For hairs I took maya interactive grooming. Model was hand sculpted without any scans, textures hand painted in Substance Painter. See more on my Page
Looks good. How did you get depth of field going in Arnold? I am trying to use it one of my own projects similar to this, and it's not working. I'm applying the focus distance relative to how far Maya is telling me the camera is from the model, but it's still not working. =/
no, top place have no matter. only in Arnold section. If you wish make stronger DOF increase Aperture Size.
Yea I just tried without the top setting and it's still working. My problem is that the foreground (closer to the camera) is being blurred and what is in the background (farther away like the ears) is not blurring. Is that because I'm using the wrong Focus Distance?
Ok thanks. What focus distance should I be using then? Maya is saying it is 264 distance from camera. Is there a way to know which distance is correct?

make locator and place it on the place for your focus distance. Distance from locator to camera will be your Focus distance. Wenn you take focus distance from object, you become distance to middle of the object and not for the surface

Ah ok that worked thanks a lot man. One last question, did you do a lot of work on the images in photoshop after you got the initial renders out of Arnold? Your images seem to have a nice painterly effect that I'm not getting directly out of Arnold. Thanks.

no, I did not a lot. Only background and some exposure settings. This is original rendered image.
Looks really great. I'm trying to get results like this. I'm doing okay with the skin. I have no idea how to do the clothing fabrics and stuff though. How did you go about the clothing? Did you use any tutorials you might be able to recommend?
