Is all internet always doomed to fail at some point?

It seems like no matter how much technology progresses, when it comes to internet, it seems like modems/routers/wifi always keeps screwing up at some point. And it makes me angry because I lose so much productivity because my internet just decides to crap out at random when I'm in the middle of doing something important.

Is there any solution to getting consistently stable internet that never disconnects or freaks out ever?

I think you just need to find a better ISP. I have disconnects as well but they are very rare, maybe once a year? Like 1 to 5 min max.

Bad news is I'm in Ontario where the internet is controlled by the mafia. Was hoping I could buy some kind of super modem that guarantees connection, since all the ISP's use the same lines. They just charge you different money.

Well, you could always throw a bundle of money at the problem assuming your router is at fault.

Firstly you need to identify whether the problem is on your local network or outside of it. Firstly can you tell us a little about the topology of your network? How many devices are there? are they all connected over WiFi? Is there a device connected via ethernet? What you see happening when your network drops? etc. etc.

Modems are simple pieces of tech, even low end ones should work plenty fine for many years without many hiccups.

If you're positive the problem is at your gateway and you're on broadband you can try and replace the micro-filter first (I'm from UK not sure if you have one in US), they're little cheap devices plugged into the wall. You can also call up your provider to see if they can run a line test to you to identify any issues, and if there are then they can try and fix the problem on their end.

Simple answer is just talk to your ISP.

In the UK, you just accept it - once you're in a contract, they only care about getting the money off you.
