Hi everyone, I tried to approach this project differently and finish the environment first before I continue on the actual ruins. I'm happy with the general landscape bu I'm stuck with my trees. Other foliage actors are ok, but i can't seem to adjust the density and geometry of the leaf cards (probably texture too). Is there a good tutorial on speedtree for game assets? Or could you guys share your wisdom?
Solid start. But the tree branches are too thick, the biological rule is that the area of all branches sum to the area of the branch they are attached to. IE all the branches sprouting off the main trunk are just as thick put together as the main trunk itself.
The broadleaf tree also type has too many branches and not enough leaves.
@FreneticPonies Thanks. I actually took the time and examined epics tree models and also some real trees this time. I'm really happy with the new conifers. Now that i look at it the old ones were horrible.
Scanned a log the other day, can't decide which texture to use, i modified the textures to be more compatible with the scene. The bottom one is the original, I painted the conifer bark on top but i think it lost some detail in the process.
Thanks guys. @FreneticPonies I have rubble meshes planned out, they should help hide the repetition. @homart Yeah, I should do something about that, probably blend different textures with the noise brush. @ZacD Of course, looks much better now, I should work on the stairs and add some high walls, maybe a gateway.
I've been busy, almost finished all the meshes and materials, did some general placement. Can't decide about the fog, I like the extremely foggy atmosphere up close, but it gets a bit washed out in aerial shots. I use exponential height fog with volumetric option enabled by the way.
I call this one finished. Some nature assets came out better than I expected, but had to change speedtrees with mesh versions, apparently Epic can't sell assets created with speedtree anymore. Learned much more about modular modeling and texturing. Its now available on the Unreal Marketplace. Thanks everyone, for your precious feedback.
