Hi everyone! I am so exited for the new God Of War game that I wanted to create a character that fit in the universe. I Also wanted to try a different workflow involving Photogrametry and scan my head in to get a realistic head to work from. So his name is Dugrof, he is a solitary hunter who I imagine Could be a main NPC helping Kratos and Atreus. This is what I have so far. Going to start retopologizing him soon. Let me know what you think
My computer decided to die on me so have only been able to work on this guys at school. Here are my Bakes and some preliminary textures in Substance painter. Let me know what stands out or if their's any interesting ideas you think would look cool in textures
Texture Update: Did a pass on everything. still need to do another pass to push some stuff. the fur on his boots and wrists is supposed to be wolf fur, still needs some tweaking and also want to fix up the hair a bit too. Let me know what you think. What stands out, and what I should focus on next
The sculpting/modeling, design of his equipment + clothing especially is superb! I'm not too sure how far along you are with the texturing, but a lot of its definitions are still muddy. Hair/beard is getting there!
It's certainly not bad work but there's a lot it still needs. When you're sculpting, it seems like you're completely skipping stage of medium details, you're blocking out major shapes and forms and then diretly jumping into details, thing with this approach is that it makes entire character be very messy as details dont have forms to hold onto. As for the fur, there are few popular ways to create it, one is of course fur planes which is rather heavy. Other method is dotted opacity map on overlapping volumes, as an example, imagine creating several planes on top of each other, even tough they're planes, they'll imitate feeling of volume. Then there is another approach, which you can find by searching for AFRO hairstyle for ames, you basically create cards at 90' angle from each other and it fakes volume from each side.
Thank you for all the feed back the textures are about 50% done I like to jump around and bring everything up gradually. for the fur I am following Nikita Volobuev's fur tutorial. Here: http://www.artstation.com/artwork/3m9qD I am going to focus on completing the fur and doing another pass on the hair and I will post updates.
After hitting a few setbacks and having to build a new computer Im happy to be able to get back to work on this guy. I have been focusing on trying to get my materials to read better. I brought him in to marmoset to see how he is looking. I am pretty happy with everything except the hair and fur. Ive been struggling to get it to a point where im happy with it. Going to focus on that next. Let me know what you guys think or if you have some tips on hair.
Hi Everyone! wanted to update you all. I am getting close to calling him done. I have been tweaking the textures and lighting to try and find something I like. Let me know what you think
Needs more noise and discoloration across generally the clothes. Lookng too pristine.
Eyes need improvement. Marmoset has an exceellent tutorial on it on their website.
Skin needs subsurface scattering.
Thank you for the feedback. Did another pass on textures adding more wear and dirt to the shirt and some color variation all around. trying to improve lighting right now.
