A level in ue4 i'm working on . it all started with making a few palm trees and then it went from there. The ocean water is a community project water from ue4 forums. Link : https://github.com/UE4-OceanProject/OceanProject/tree/4.18
Wow, looks beautiful! It feels quite stylised, I think it's the boldness of the colours, it really reminds me of some of the classic games set on islands.
This section haven't been update in 2 years. In that time I've completely redone everything in the last 6 months and the whole project is close to completion. During this project I've learned a lot about making foliage. The map has a blueprint utility widget slider that controls the weather wetness of the materials and wind speed at the same time. Here's some of the screen shots that demonstrate what's been done in the last 6 months.
Did a draft for a trailer that suppose to show the environment and how the weather can be changed . Not fancy editing and music so far. https://youtu.be/RywCnVE10LM
Second iteration on the particle system for wind and rain, I've added the water mist particles that can spawn on any surface around the camera and then get blown by wind + individual water molecule particles + the giant mist particles that are spawn at 300m above you. You can see it mostly in the tree canopy. Also the wind now carrying leaves branches and palm leafs. There's also a perlin noise that adds wind gusts to particles.
Right now I'm kinda struggling with overdraw and not really sure how to get the look and density that I want without killing the perfomance.

i might suggest tho adding more color variation to the vegetation (along with some dead vegetation too)
you could just add the speedtreecolorvariation node to your material and that would prob get the job done.

A final version of the cinematic is done. Im planning to release the environment on January 12th. Probably there's gonna be a playable demo aswell.
wow
There's also a playable demo that you can check out here: DEMO
This was my most time consuming project that I've started back in 2018, but then scrapped and returned to it in 2021.
It took about 8 months to complete and was a great learning experience for me.

loving this, excellent work.
Looks great overall, but the leaves initial speed is too low compared to the perceived wind speed.
Also, the rain gusts or bursts are a bit on or off. Like they're either in your face or non existent.
Is the sky just an hdri or is it somehow dynamic?
Thanks for the feedback!
"On or off" You mean when i move the camera ?
No, in the still shots it feels like the bursts are very visible whereas normal rain is barely visible... maybe its just me
"cries in crysis memories" 😥
Really nice work !
Updated Forest section of the level.
