I am trying to move a project from Maya LT to Maya (finally upgraded). Due to the polygon export limit on LT, I broke up everything logically and exported out the FBXs with embedded media to preserve materials. Then i copied all the texture files into the new SourceImages folder. Everything is working ok, but every time I import an asset it duplicates the material if its already in the scene. Is there anyway to stop this from happening? I just want on M_ChairPlastic material, not one for every time an asset with that material gets imported. So any way to tell maya to merge these materials on import or after the fact would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance. I have already tried: turning embedded materials on and off, turning "delete duplicate materials" on import on and off, and exporting different versions of FBX (2016/2017, 2018).
