How should I create the details of a mesh?

Hi guys,

A newbie here! I was wondering how should I create the details of a mesh. I am quite confused about the workflow relating to it.

Say I have a low-poly cauldron modelled in Maya. Now I want to add some inscriptions on it. Should I export this mesh to Zbrush and sculpt the words on the high-poly there, or should I paint them directly on the mesh here in Painter?

In general, which way should I use to add details? Will the maps give me the same result as detail refining on the high-poly in ZB?

Thanks,

There's no set rule for this but basically if you're not adding any supporting geometry for the detail to the low res mesh then there's effectively no difference between baking it and adding it in painter

For text or anything intricate you're almost certainly better off adding it with textures because it'll be a ballache to make changes if it's in the sculpt
