I have never dealt with vegetation and foliage inside UE4. Can someone share some technical tips for vegetation optimization? (Material, textures, etc etc...)
I used planes in Maya and used edge loops, then manually moved each plane to the curve or shape like what the foilage will look like. Then created a texture that masks out the background and only shows the foilage texture once its applied to the plane. Once I place multiple copies of the planes and adjust them they create a foilage look, then combined and exported to Ue4. Then in UE4 I set up the material to do the transparency/masking in the material editor. Also heres a cool tip. I am also refreshing myself in ue4.

Again I'm not an optimizer but I had to do it for now.
