Here are a couple of shots of the environment I have been putting together. I will be posting more on here along with my sketchbook because I would like to have some active feedback on the scene as well. I really want to do this thing justice. The main concept art I am basing this off of is Alex Heath's piece below. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/v00ea
Going in a different direction with the overall feel. It seemed too glum and moody previously. So I've changed around the lighting to have a more cold feel to it and be generally more in theme with The Division cold winter NY atmosphere. Going to be adding in some snow piled up on the window sills and floor. It also allows me to put in some swirling snow particles to liven the scene up with some movement.
Hi zachagreg, nice progress so far! I really like the lighting update adding the god rays.
The white shapes on the floor look like a mix of snow and cow If it is snow, you should check it's appearance and location since the window is the only entry point. (No snow underneath the table + remove jagged edges at intersections with the wood)
The lighting has been a lot of my time recently. I feel it's one of those things that takes a lot of iteration, at least for me haha For the floor I see what you mean for the jagged edges, I'm currently working on some transparent cards to overlay it in order to add small splintering of the wood as well as color variation. Right now the plane underneath the floor boards is an untextured plane which will be replaced with a concrete and underlayment material but I just have the placeholder in right now. I do definitely need to add in snow and get that material in there so it looks convincing, youre totally right though in that it looks super weird right now.
