Steampunk Ent Critique (HALP)

Hello everybody.
I'm on a steampunk game project as  2D/3D artist since last year. 
And this is our last character, the Entelegente, a steampunk ent (got it? huh? ENTelegente).

Well, he's acceptable BUT (big but)  there's something that's not right and I can't spot it.
So please help me out.

    I don't know if its what you are looking for but the legs don't read well. They blur into the bottom of trunk and almost look furry. A monocle might convey the 'gent' part.

    Now I can only see the furry legs haha
    Originally the whole body was just one trunk. I've thought that he looked too much "human".
    Maybe getting more contrast in the lower area and re-thinking the legs' look will give it a boost.
