I have been working on a house model for UE4, and I have been struggling with this for a long time.
What I want to do is to add indiviually modelled roof tiles along the edges, like in this model: (inspired from:
https://80.lv/articles/romanian-village-production-in-ue4/ )
And I don't really know how to get the tiles perfectly aligned with the texture and how to connect the UVs of the tiles to the UV of the roof. Or is it better to add them in UE after finished with the texturing (substance)?

Make the tiling texture first, apply to the roof, model 1 edge tile, UV it to match the roof. Then duplicate it and offset each UV for uniqueness.
