Greetings PolyCount, I would like to ask for forgiveness in advance if I am intruding, I am entering your gaming world in search of assistance on behalf of OpenSource RX. I come from the the manufacturing world. The common ground that we share may very well be in an AutoDesk parking lot, as I use Autodesk Inventor every day, switching from AutoCad to Inventor was easy, but I am having a very hard time with 3Ds Max, nevertheless I have a question that may lead to an opportunity for a modeler(s) who would like to actually drive the car that they have modeled of us. How often do 3D artist from the gaming world cross over into product design? From my perspective, surface modeling and solid modeling share similarities, but are based on a different set of fundamentals. I am comfortable working with AutoDesk Inventor's solid modeling tools, but surface modeling is quite difficult for me. We would like some help from the surface modelers who share a common interest in automobile racing. We are in need of a 3D model of a car body that we are going to create in fiber reinforced composite. The car's design was recently approved for competition and we are going to follow through with the physical build. https://www.facebook.com/mazda.osrx/

Do you mean like 3D Artists who hop between working in game development and Archviz/Marketing, or are you specifically looking for game artists who do keep in contact with Car Companies?
The first example definitely exists. There are Artists whose background involves working in Games, Feature Films, VR, Product Visualization etc. I also don't believe any 3D Artist would turn down a role/gig that involves creating a 3D model based off concept art. Like you said, it's all hardsurface modeling and game artists have created high polygon versions of their own game assets.
So overlap exists between making game art and making any product based off a reference. If you want to hire someone to model for you, there is a Freelance section or Full Time/Part Time listing on Polycount where you can recruit people.
