Hey guys im modelling some broken wood planks, was wondering do i need to add more edges so that i dont get ngons, or is it ok as its not being animated ?
Generally there's nothing wrong with having ngons on a flat surface like you have, but if you need a specific triangulation/topology for your surface then doing it by hand is ofc required. Test in your target rendered to see if you get any shading errors if not it's good to go.
I think you have too many edges, not really doing much that can't be handled with less geometry to make the shape you have. OR, you could push the geo that you have to do more with the silhouette.
