"Deep in the forest there once lived a troll."
A quote from Out of the Forests, The Art of Paul Bonner.
This quote, along with Paul Bonners fantastic paintings, is what inspired this little scene.
I wanted this to feel like a part of the deepest woods, where light rarely reaches and you can almost reach out and touch the thick air.
The hardest part of it all was balancing the darkness to be as dark as I wanted it to be, but not "I can't see shit"-dark, it was a very fine line to walk, but a fun challange.
This was all done with 100% dynamic lighting in UE4.
All rocks where scanned using an Iphone7 and processed Reality Capture. I then cleaned up the textures using a mixture of Substance Designer and Painter. Modelling of lowpolys and vegetation was done with a mix of 3Ds Max and Blender.
Applied to just about every surface is the moss shader I have been working on for UE4.
