Hi people.

Name's James and I'm a 28 year old animation student. I'm into character design and visual storytelling. Just picked up ZBrush a couple weeks back and have been steadily working on my 2D skills since around 2015.

I'll be posting a mix of 2D and 3D work, mostly based around character development, plus a bunch of studies and stuff I guess.

Comments and critiques are most welcome, please help me get good!

Head sculpt from memory, I was kinda shooting for realistic with this one and ended up with something really blocky and planar. Wasn't too disappointed with the results though.

And lastly, a very fast mouth study from today. Mostly just trying to iron out a nice process for getting the job done. I've kinda just been sketching the outline of the lips with the Dam Standard brush then using the Move brush to pull it all into place. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. With this one I created a crevice for the lower lip and built up the forms with Clay Tubes and it went a lot smoother. I also ZRemeshed it once the forms were in place, something I'm gonna do a lot more now. I didn't realize how much could be gained from cleaner topology. There's bound to be a few anatomical errors here but I'm glad I managed to get a good process together.

I'll definitely be resizing my images from now on hahaa. Day one and this sketchbook is already hella messy!

Progress on a character sculpt I started today. Spent a fair bit of time cleaning up edges and polishing the overall surface. Feel like I've learnt a lot when it comes to 'finishing' a sculpt and making it all look crisp and presentable.
