Hey all This is not done, so I won't ask for a critique, but I would appreciate advice on characters anatomy/position etc as well as anything else that jumps out as wrong Thank you kindly
Its a catchy name "buffalo taxi" I think splatter around the light is too overwhelming , its like a moth effect you cant stop watching it Looks to me that buffalo is taking a break not sure if this is intentional but its in contrast with fast walking guy in front Maybe give buffalo some shine to the eye bring life back to poor animal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bax_lkNRH4c Maybe you can add some more dynamism to the back ground if you introduce diagonal , looks like they are having a blast so why not try diagonal top left to bottom right that will point to the right direction kind of helping them or the opposite if you like to add some opposition and complication , like if nature guard her own and journey wont be as smooth at it seems Also maybe you can add some interest to the background like dune . hill or some vegetation dead or alive in a sense adding more layers giving whole composition more depth http://english.ahram.org.eg/Media/News/2015/6/8/2015-635693836958492590-849.jpg
@carvuliero awesome suggestions! thanks a lot for your time. For the diagonal movement, maybe a swirl of sand or smthg. And you're very right about the background and depth, did not think of that The final name is Bubbalus itinerantur
Swirl could be even better -> bringing more movement to the picture(give life to dead desert , contrast is always good ) , and ties nicely with traveling theme If you are more adventurous you could give this swirl of sand eyes/face and end up with new character - sand spirit/fairy something playful or just a mirage
Definitely looks better , one more small thing , leader's brow glabella and nose bridge are all melt into one form , its kind of extreme take on greek nose
@EVF ah, I see. Well if thats the case I would really try to push that. if they firefly is emitting so strong light, you wont really be able to see any detail from it, its like staring into a lamp, you can barely make out the form.
also, night time is usually really low contrast and de-saturated, sometimes we ad a blue tint to make it more dramatic, so I would really try to push that as well.
finally the light itself, if its so strong and so close to the characters, it would give of really hard edges and strong, long cast shadows.
I made a simple paint over to try illustrate some of those points, but I would also try looking at references of people in the dark at campfires. like this one for example. in this one you can see a bit more of the sky as well. this one is really cool, because you get these very interesting shapes in the sand, and also the long shadows I was talking about in this one for example.
anyways, hope it was helpfull, and here is the Paintover.
Another splendidly helpful critique Mr @lotet I usually look at refs for individual items and such, but I often forget to get refs for the entire scene. Thanks so much for the enlightenment! and for your time

Partly why colour/lighting comps are an important part of doing thumbnails! (I need to work on this myself)

Maybe you can add some more dynamism to the back ground if you introduce diagonal , looks like they are having a blast so why not try diagonal top left to bottom right that will point to the right direction kind of helping them or the opposite if you like to add some opposition and complication , like if nature guard her own and journey wont be as smooth at it seems
Also maybe you can add some interest to the background like dune . hill or some vegetation dead or alive in a sense adding more layers giving whole composition more depth
