What is up my brothers and sisters in arts! I've been working on a new project (well, it was new when it started, about a year ago) ,the well known (in whoever messes with cars) toyota 2JZ.
I started this over 1 year ago but work, family, and home projects leave little time for personal projects. but i click on it whenever i find time. They say a picture is 1000 words, so i'll get on with it. Initially i block out everything with basic shapes, then retopo manually over it.
To take a break from the engine block i made the starter and the turbo
Whenever I see things like this, I wonder what kind of reference the author is working from. Do you have a bunch of parts available that you can take pictures of? Or you are able to find reference images of all the parts you need?
Never realized the block-in retopo workflow. Always thought that workflow's for character design only.. or that it's done by NURB modelling.. Talk about being narrow minded and getting frustrated when trying to model straight up with box/plane modelling technique...
Nice clean renders, this is done by a Vray render or ?
the external is and older model so it was mental ray, the engine is vray. i gotta confess that mental ray was giving me more predictable results, but vray is more powerful and faster.

the reference is all pictures from the internet. after finishing with the big stuff i've reached a point that in order to find reference for some small items like sensors etc, i have to go to an online parts catalogue, find the part number for the part, then look it up on ebay or something to get closeup photos

What about dimension? It's quite crucial and not always available. I take it stuffs like fixings and bolts are all guess work
