Generating environment ideas - drawing vs photobashing question.

Hey guys,

I have a question for you. I am a studying environment artist and I have a slight bit of a problem. I could never draw like people around me, I feel I am good in the technical side of things with modelling in software as it gives me a sense of scale however I fear not being able to draw as nice as people around could impact me in the future. However, what I am pretty good at is photobashing and photoshop overall. I was wondering if you guys think it's acceptable that I use my photoshop skills to create concepts for my models or should I just keep practising drawing until I get it right?

Do both. Both are good skills to have.

Seeing as you are a student you should take the opportunity to improve on areas that you think need improving. Good fundamental drawing skills is something that will always be useful as a concept artist obviously, so keep at it. With that said, a lot of our concepts are photobashed (mainly quick light tests etc.) so photobashing is still very useful.
